Welcome Parents and Students!
My name is Rolando Salazar and I would like to welcome you to what will be a very busy and engaging 8th grade school year! I hope each of you had a pleasant summer vacation and are as ready as I am for what is to come, but I would first like us to get to know one another. So I’ll start.
I graduated magna cum laude from SHSU with a major in Interdisciplinary studies and a minor in Math and Science. I have been with Huntsville ISD for 8 years. I have three wonderful children that keep me busy and life interesting. I believe that life is full of challenges that we can all overcome as long as we are not willing to give up, and we approach them with dignity and poise. As a teacher, it is my goal to ensure that every one of my students gets an equal amount of time to learn from me, and leaves my class every day with confidence so that they may apply what they have learned.
As a father and teacher, I have learned that routine is paramount when living a balanced life, and I strive daily to maintain that in my classroom so that I may lead by example for my students. For me, school is not just about books and memorization. It is also about experience and developing social skills that will benefit us all as a society, and as people. With that in mind, you will find that we will establish expectations and procedures very quickly so that we get in as many experiences as possible this school year.
We are on TWITTER! I hope you will follow our class twitter (@salazarmathHISD) to keep up with what we’re doing in class, gain access to important documents and even find some great resources for helping your student at home.
Parents, above all, I want you to know that I understand the tremendous amount of faith you are entrusting to me with your child. Please, never hesitate to ask questions or come to me for anything. This will be the very first expectation we discuss in class. At the end of this letter you will find my contact information and conference times so that we may accommodate one another as well as possible. I hope you will leave your e-mail address with me so that we may communicate effectively and ensure your student’s success.
Thank you all for being here and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Sting ‘em Hornets!
