Welcome to 7th Grade Investigating Careers class. My name is Sonya Dial, and I have the honor of teaching this class again this year.
My background is Reading/Language Arts specialist with a masters degree in bilingual/ESL. I have taught ELA, ESL, and Careers while in Huntsville. I moved from Houston where I was a trainer and coordinator for the balanced reading/writing programs on various campuses (Spanish, English and language transitioning).
In addition to my continued commitment to serving our students at the middle school level, I have been a professor at SHSU. I taught junior and senior level education majors how to work with second language learners. My love of learning and desire to render this opportunity to ALL students drives me to continue my educational process of learning to meet the diverse set of needs our kiddos bring to the classroom.
I will do what I can to provide your child the opportunity to experience different types of school and community related activities. This includes the opportunity to assist in the classroom, on the campus, and even in our community. Professionals from the various industries will visit with the students to share their expertise with us. Students will be invited to participate in our Junior Service Club. Our club will take on some projects under the guidance of the Junior Service League. Other projects will be done with our MPMS students and teacher sponsors.
An additional pleasure is serving as MPMS Business Partner Campus Coordinator. Our partner is First United Methodist Church. We meet on a monthly basis and are active on campus throughout the school year.
Please speak with your child about his/her needs. The students are welcome to join me before school for peer assisted and teacher assisted tutoring to aid them academically. I am typically here by 6:50 am. Should there be information I need, to better assist your child, please give me a call at 936.435.6400. My conference is during 8th period.
