Week of October 23rd in Science
Dear School Family,
We continue to learn about our body systems this week. The systems test is scheduled for November 9th. The test is challenging because the students are expected to be able to describe the function and major organs for each of the 11 body systems. The test will also include how body systems work with each other. For example: the circulatory system's function is to transport nutrients and oxygen to cells throughout the body and carry waste away from the cells. The major organs are the heart, aorta, veins, capillaries, and arteries. The circulatory system works with the respiratory system by the respiratory system brings oxygen into the body and the circulatory system transports the oxygen to the cells.
The eleven systems are circulatory, respiratory, nervous, integumentary, endocrine, immune, digestive, excretory, reproductive, skeletal, and muscular.
It is a lot of information. Please ask your child which systems we have already covered, what each ones function is, and to name some major organs.
This week in science -
Monday - October 23rd - Receive System Project (each student will draw for a disease and make a mini poster to inform people about the disease); research and work on assignment
Tuesday - examine circulatory system
Wednesday - examine respiratory system
Thursday - complete a lab to see these systems in action
Friday - examine integumentary system
